János Korényi, 1973, pictorial art conservator-painter

János Korényi was born in Leipzig, Germany in 1973.
He attended primary and secondary school in Hungary and Germany, obtaining his abitur degree in Neunkirchen, nord-rhein-Westfalen in 1993.
He studied architecture in Koblenz.
Meanwhile he temporarily joined an orthodox monastery founded by a monk from mount athos (skite des hl. spyridon, geilnau an der lahn) where, for two and a half years, he took part in the ascetic and religious life of the monks and thus acquainted himself with orthodox spiritual life.
This experience implanted in him a deep-rooted respect for traditions which, ever since, exert a strong influence on his art.
Not only the choice of sacred themes, but also the skilful application of traditional techniques, as well as his utilisation of predominantly figural representations reflect his wish to assume and re-evaluate the historical past.
In 1996 he returned home to Budapest and gained admission to the University of Fine Arts.
In 2002, after five years of study, he received his ma degree as painter and pictorial art conservator from the institute for conservation and restoration.
This in addition to the spiritual background, he also acquired a profound mastery of the professional techniques.
Ever since, he has been active as a free-lance painter and conservator, doing conservation works for various museums, private collections and galleries in Hungary, Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

As an artist, he regularly exhibits his works at national and international exhibitions.
His works are present in church and private collections, in Hungary and abroad.

In his spare-time, János Korényi is engaged with his three children, singing in a byzantine choir and playing jazz with his wife, who is a pianist.
