Réka Somogyi, painter

Réka Somogyi lived in Germany from 1996 to 2001. This is when she started occupying herself with painting silk, influenced by the famous Ingrid Zeelau.
For the past 6 years those living in hungary can become familiar with this not everyday world, which we can confidently label as Reka Somogyesque, because she is the only one who paints like this, and is capable of painting like this. She is a lucky, perhaps even blessed person, because she did not have to struggle with discovering this form, the form already existed in her when she first took a brush into her hand. Her master and influence pulled back after their first joint picture was painted: she only kept giving advice concerning technique, because luckily she saw that this was all Réka needed help in. Teh artist looks out onto the world, as if through a window. there outside the glass: past the mountain of glass, she sees something. whether it is true or not noone knows, not even her. Is it a square, or a bare desert, is she dreaming the colours, or the colours her, nothing is certain. But the artist starts to paint, because she sees something: this is what Réka sees.

Once we get to know and love Réka's pictures, we no longer wonder about anything: that the world isn't truly like this!? But it is! let us look out of the window wich Réka opens for us. Although it's not about intoxication or feeling overrwhelmed by beauty, it is-although playfully-: about everything, everythingness, about where we came from, what we are, and where we are headed.

lines. Let us consider how important the contour lines which the paint fills in on the silk are. The have to be drawn by steady hands, otherwise the paint will not hold fast, and silk - no matter how fine - doesn't know mercy: the paint flows apart on it, and the picture cannot be fixed, the artist has to start again. It is a merciless thing. But Réka does not fear, but dances lightly, and at the same time takes us by the hand, and begins to lead us.
We quickly reach fields. The field is colourful, the flowers, the houses, all kings of strange beings surround us, the area gets bigger and bigger, it widens, whilst we - without even realizing it - get farther and farther away from ourselves, and get closer to the biggest one. At the same time we reach such a place as only few people know about. Perhaps it looks like this, perhaps it doesn't. All - one. From here we can only go on alone, we lose the concept of ourselves, the role of me-ness, perhaps we too are dwarves or butterflies. If we are at all. Because it could be that we only have shadow of a role on god's palette, or maybe not even that. Everyone according to his own fate.
