Anecdote
For me Zoltán Debreczeny is a bit similar to that hero of Bohumil Hrabal's, uncle pepin. The difference is that while pepin tells his inextricable anecdotes in endlessly sneaking sentences, Zoli is able to tell his sweet plaintive, dry, ironical or grotesque stories in one picture. what temperateness and conciseness!
He creates odd little worlds that cannot fit between right angles, they float for a bit, and sometimes even a small miracle happens in them. His pictures are full of events. It's unnecessary to search for inspiration in them, since the inner dramaturgy of his art is more similar to that of comic strips, compressed into one picture.
Can he save the world by this by no means. This is not the job of anecdotes.
Zoltán Debreczeny helps us to be able to laugh at the world, to come closer to the noble art of irony and self-irony. His pictures are fluent, dry, and flavourful. They are similar to nice, white, dry wine. They loosen the company's tongue, they bring people closer to each other. When you consume them, they help the digestion and leave positive feelings behind.
