Zsofi Varga,1974, hungarian graphic artist and painter
Was born in 1974, in Budapest. She started to draw at the age of six and her drawings were published at the hungarian press since 1981. Her first exhibitoin was held in 1983, in budapest. She studied graphic arts at the art secondary school of budapest from 1988 till 1992. since then she works as a freelance artist.
She is working with several elaborate and traditional graphic techniques: She had learned copper engraving; this technique was very popular from the baroque till the xix.siécle but nowadays it made by only a very few contemporary artists. Besides, she experiments with coloured aquatints, where she mixes the colours of the prints with two differently etched copperplates, and she also makes stone lithographs, etched and printed by herself, at a collective workshop in budapest.
In her graphics, she follows the rich tradition of philosophic graphic art of eastern europe. She is a member of several hungarian graphic artist?s association and a group for hungarian satirical artists (koksz műhely).
Besides her graphic work, she makes paintings and small sculptures as well. She exhibits frequently in hungary and abroad.
